Why did Rajendra Chola I take the title 'Gangaikoṇḍachola'?

Rajendra Chola I took the title 'Gangaikoṇḍachola', meaning "the Chola who seized Ganga", because he expanded his empire into parts of Odisha and Bengal. He also conquered all of northern Sri Lanka.
