Amir Khusro (Abu'l Hasan Yaminuddin Khusro) was a 13th–14th century Indo-Persian poet, musician, and scholar (born 1253 CE, died 1325 CE in Delhi).
- Disciple of Sufi saint Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya of the Chishti order
- Served as court poet under Delhi Sultanate rulers including Alauddin Khilji
Main Contributions:
- Credited with popularizing the sitar and tabla
- Developed the qawwali musical form in South Asia
- Pioneered the Khayal vocal style in Hindustani classical music
- Created Hindavi poetry foundational to Urdu/Hindi literary tradition
- Called "Tuti-e-Hind" (Parrot of India) and the "Father of Qawwali"
