What were Al-Bīrunī's main accomplishments during his time in India?

Al-Bīrunī learnt Sanskrit and wrote an encyclopaedic survey of Indian religion, philosophy, literature, geography, and sciences. He studied works of Indian scholars and translated Patanjali's Yogasutras into Arabic.
