What was the role of the Constituent Assembly in shaping India's Constitution?
The Constituent Assembly drafted, discussed and adopted the Constitution. It was made up of representatives from different provinces and communities who debated provisions in committees and in the Assembly as a whole. Through these debates and committee reports, the Assembly framed the basic structure of government, Fundamental Rights, Directive Principles and other important provisions so that the Constitution reflected India's democratic values of equality, justice and liberty.
