What is natural selection?

Natural selection is the process in which organisms with favorable traits survive and reproduce more successfully than others in a particular environment.

It is one of the main mechanisms of evolution and was explained by Charles Darwin. According to this concept, individuals that are better adapted to their surroundings have a higher chance of survival and passing their traits to the next generation.

Over time, these beneficial traits become more common in the population, while less useful traits gradually disappear.

For example, animals with camouflage colors can escape predators more easily and are more likely to survive and reproduce.
