What hormone is secreted by Sertoli cells?
Sertoli cells primarily secrete the hormone inhibin, which helps regulate the process of sperm production in males. Inhibin controls the secretion of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) from the anterior pituitary gland through a negative feedback mechanism.
Sertoli cells are specialized cells present inside the seminiferous tubules of the testes. Apart from secreting inhibin, they support and nourish developing sperm cells during spermatogenesis. They also produce androgen-binding protein (ABP), which helps maintain a high concentration of testosterone required for sperm development.
