Mass of a body is m on the surface of earth. What will be its weight on surface of earth and at height h = R/100 above the surface of earth.
Therefore, the weight of the body on the surface is W = m · g
Now we know that there is a loss in weight of the body at height h as the acceleration due to gravity decreases with height above the surface of earth.
Loss in weight = 2mgh/R
⇒ Loss in weight = 2mgh/R = 2m g (R/100)/R = m g / 50
So, weight at given height = m g − (m g / 50) = 49/50 m g
∴ Weight at height h = 49/50 m g
