How did Buddhism create a cultural connection between India and China?

Buddhism forms a strong cultural link between India and China by spreading from India to China around the 1st century CE through trade and pilgrimage. Chinese monks Faxian and Xuanzang travelled to India, whilst Indian monks Bodhidharma, Dharmakṣhema, and Kumārajīva carried Buddhist teachings to China.
