Who was Vera Gedroits?

Vera Gedroits (1870–1932) was the world's first female military surgeon, performing battlefield surgery during the Russo-Japanese War (1904–1905) on a hospital train. She later became a professor of surgery at Kyiv University and was also a published poet under the pseudonym Sergei Gedroits.
