  • Born 20 November 1750 in Devanahalli, Karnataka; son of Hyder Ali
  • Fought in all four Anglo-Mysore Wars (1767–1799) against British expansion
  • Introduced one of the world's first military rocket systems Mysorean rockets
  • Signed the Treaty of Mangalore (1784) one of the few treaties where India dictated equal terms to the British
  • Killed at the Battle of Seringapatam (4 May 1799) when British forces stormed his capital his death marked the end of Mysore's independence
