Fa Hien (also spelled Faxian) was a Chinese Buddhist monk and pilgrim who traveled from China to India during the reign of Chandragupta II (Vikramaditya) of the Gupta Empire, arriving around 399 CE and leaving around 414 CE.
Traveled to India to collect Buddhist scriptures and visit sacred Buddhist sites
Stayed approximately 10 years, primarily in Pataliputra, Kashi, and Buddhist pilgrimage sites
Wrote "Fo-Kuo-Ki" (Record of Buddhist Kingdoms) a primary historical source for Gupta-era India
