Who Appoints the Governor?

The Governor of an Indian state is appointed by the President of India under Article 155 of the Indian Constitution, acting on the advice of the Prime Minister.

• Term: 5 years, but serves at the pleasure of the President can be removed before term ends
• Qualifications (Article 157): Must be a citizen of India; must be at least 35 years of age
• One person can be appointed Governor of two or more states simultaneously
