What is photosynthesis?

Photosynthesis is the process by which green plants make their own food using sunlight, carbon dioxide, and water.

This process takes place mainly in the leaves, which contain a green pigment called chlorophyll. Chlorophyll captures sunlight and uses that energy to convert carbon dioxide from the air and water from the soil into glucose, which is the plant’s food.
