What causes rickets?
Rickets is caused mainly by a deficiency of Vitamin D, which reduces the body's ability to absorb calcium and phosphorus. These minerals are essential for building and maintaining strong bones, especially during childhood.
Children with rickets may develop soft or weak bones, bowed legs, bone pain, delayed growth, and muscle weakness. The condition can be prevented by getting adequate sunlight exposure, eating Vitamin D-rich foods such as fortified milk, eggs, and fatty fish, and consuming enough calcium-rich foods.
