What are xylem and phloem?
Xylem and phloem are specialized vascular tissues in plants that help in the transportation of substances throughout the plant body.
Xylem is responsible for carrying water and minerals absorbed from the soil by the roots to the stem, leaves, and other parts of the plant. It mainly transports substances in an upward direction.
Phloem transports the food prepared in the leaves through photosynthesis to different parts of the plant where it is needed for growth, storage, and energy. Phloem can transport food both upward and downward.
Together, xylem and phloem form the plant’s transport system and are essential for the survival and proper functioning of plants.
