What are the types of nutrition?
Nutrition can be broadly classified into two main types based on how organisms obtain their food: autotrophic nutrition and heterotrophic nutrition.
Autotrophic nutrition is the mode in which organisms prepare their own food using simple inorganic substances. This is commonly seen in green plants, algae, and some bacteria that perform photosynthesis using sunlight, carbon dioxide, and water.
Heterotrophic nutrition is the mode in which organisms depend on other organisms for their food. Animals, fungi, and most bacteria follow this type of nutrition, where they consume plant or animal matter.
These two types of nutrition form the foundation of energy flow in ecosystems, with autotrophs acting as producers and heterotrophs as consumers.
