Verified Answer

Zoroastrianism and Vedic thought share several similarities. Both share the concept of a cosmic order holding the universe together, and both give importance to fire worship in rituals. There are similarities in words between the two traditions: Soma, the Vedic divine drink, is similar to Haoma in Avestan; Hotar, the Vedic priest, is similar to Haotar; and Yajña, the Vedic sacrifice, is similar to Yasna. Old Avestan and Vedic Sanskrit share many word roots and grammatical features. However, there are interesting differences, such as devas being beneficial gods in Vedas but evil gods in Avesta.
