The Earth is divided into four major domains that represent different components of the planet and support life in various ways. These domains are:
- Lithosphere
This is the solid outer part of the Earth, including the crust and the uppermost mantle. It consists of rocks, minerals, landforms, and soil. The lithosphere forms continents and ocean floors.
- Hydrosphere
This domain includes all forms of water on Earth such as oceans, rivers, lakes, glaciers, and groundwater. It covers about 71% of the Earth’s surface and is essential for all living organisms.
- Atmosphere
The atmosphere is the layer of gases surrounding the Earth. It provides oxygen for breathing, protects from harmful solar radiation, and regulates temperature and weather conditions.
- Biosphere
The biosphere includes all living organisms - plants, animals, and microorganisms - and the regions where life exists. It interacts with all other domains to sustain life.
