What are recessive traits?
Recessive traits are characteristics that are expressed only when an individual has two copies of the recessive allele for a particular gene.
If a dominant allele is present along with a recessive allele, the dominant allele masks the effect of the recessive one, and the recessive trait does not appear in the phenotype.
Recessive traits are usually represented by lowercase letters, for example, “t” for short height.
An example of a recessive trait is blue eye color, which is expressed only when both alleles are recessive.
Recessive traits become visible only in homozygous conditions and are important for understanding genetic inheritance patterns.
