What are platelets?
Platelets are small, colorless cell fragments present in the blood that play an important role in blood clotting.
When a blood vessel is injured, platelets gather at the site of the injury and form a clot to stop bleeding. They also release substances that help in the clotting process and repair damaged blood vessels.
Without platelets, even small injuries could lead to excessive bleeding.
Thus, platelets are essential for wound healing and maintaining the body’s protective response against blood loss.
