What are cyclostomes?

Cyclostomes are a group of primitive jawless vertebrates that belong to the superclass Cyclostomata. They are aquatic animals characterized by a circular mouth without jaws, an elongated body, and a cartilaginous skeleton.

Examples of cyclostomes include lampreys and hagfishes. They do not have paired fins and true jaws like advanced fishes. Many cyclostomes are parasitic and attach themselves to other aquatic animals using their round, sucking mouth to obtain nutrition.
