What are common mineral deficiency diseases?
Mineral deficiency diseases develop when the body does not receive enough essential minerals needed for growth, metabolism, and normal body functions. Different mineral deficiencies cause different health problems.
Common mineral deficiency diseases include anaemia due to iron deficiency, goitre caused by iodine deficiency, osteoporosis and weak bones linked to low calcium intake, and dental problems associated with fluoride deficiency. These conditions can usually be prevented by eating a balanced diet, using iodised salt, and consuming mineral-rich foods such as dairy products, green leafy vegetables, nuts, seeds, pulses, seafood, and whole grains.
