Particle size plays a major role in deciding how a mixture can be separated. Different separation methods are designed to handle particles of different sizes.
When the particles are large and easily visible, methods like handpicking can be used, such as removing stones from rice. If the particles are of different sizes but smaller, sieving is useful, like separating flour from bran.
For very fine particles that cannot be seen easily, filtration is used. In this method, a filter paper allows liquid to pass through while trapping the tiny solid particles.
