How can we measure electric current in a circuit?

Electric current can be measured using an instrument called an ammeter. The ammeter is connected in series with the circuit so that all the current flowing through the circuit passes through the ammeter. The ammeter will then display the current in amperes (A), which indicates the amount of electric charge flowing per second.
