Explain balanced diet and its importance.
A balanced diet is a diet that provides all the essential nutrients - carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins, minerals, dietary fibre, and water - in the right amounts to meet the body's energy and nutritional needs. It includes a variety of foods from different food groups to support healthy growth and normal body functions.
A balanced diet is important because it provides energy, supports growth and tissue repair, strengthens the immune system, maintains healthy bones and muscles, and helps the brain function properly. It also reduces the risk of malnutrition, deficiency diseases, obesity, type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and other lifestyle-related health problems. A healthy balanced diet typically includes whole grains, pulses, fruits, vegetables, milk or dairy products, nuts, seeds, and healthy fats while limiting foods high in sugar, salt, and unhealthy fats.
