Compare the following ratios:

3 : 4, 5 : 6 and 3 : 8

or 3/4, 5/6 and 3/8

LCM of 4, 6 and 8 = 24

∴ (3 × 6)/(4 × 6) = 18/24, (5 × 4)/(6 × 4) = 20/24

and (3 × 3)/(8 × 3) = 9/24

Here 9 < 18 < 20

or 9/24 < 18/24 < 20/24

or 3/8 < 3/4 < 5/6

Hence, 3 : 8 < 3 : 4 < 5 : 6.
