Can I kiss my partner with impetigo?

Kissing or close skin contact while having impetigo is not recommended. The infection is highly contagious and spreads through direct contact with the sores or contaminated items.

From a practical standpoint, even brief contact can transfer bacteria, especially if lesions are present around the mouth. This can lead to your partner developing impetigo or carrying the bacteria.

The safest approach is to avoid close physical contact until the infection has been treated for at least 24–48 hours with antibiotics and lesions begin to heal.
