A boy get 25 marks out of 80 marks out of and fails by 15 and fails by marks. Find the percentage of passing marks.
Total marks = 80
Marks obtained = 25
Failed by = 15 marks
This means the student needed 15 more marks to pass.
Passing marks = 25 + 15 = 40 marks
Now find percentage:
Percentage = (Passing marks ÷ Total marks) × 100
= (40 ÷ 80) × 100
= 50%
The percentage of passing marks is 50%.
If a student fails by some marks, we simply add those marks to obtained marks to get passing marks. Then we calculate percentage. This type of question is common in basic maths course and competitive exams.
